Osum Canyon
South of Berat, the Osum River has carved a spectacular limestone gorge — the Osum Canyon — one of Albania's most striking natural sights and a popular side trip from the city.
Last updated: September 2026
The Osum Canyon stretches for several kilometres, its steep limestone walls rising dramatically above the river. In spring, when water levels are higher, it is a celebrated rafting destination; in the drier months, visitors can walk along parts of the riverbed and admire the rock formations from below.
Getting There
The canyon is reachable from Berat by car or organised tour, roughly an hour's drive. Many visitors join a guided tour that combines transport with rafting or sightseeing — see our tours page for options.
